For the love of Monterosso

Both of us woke at 3am feeling rough as guts, hot from the sunburn and from the food – knew that meal would be back to haunt us. Finally able to drift back to sleep but before we know it the alarm goes off for breakfast.

We’d already decided to stay the extra night but it’s a bit of a drama as the concierge double booked us and the hotel is now booked out. The hotel acknowledged their mistake and offered us a beautiful B&B (that has the most divine marble stairway entrance) just around the corner for half the price of the hotel. Worked out wonders.

Pretty pleased with ourselves, we set off for the day and have timed it perfectly with the local market. It attracts most of the locals and crowds from the outer villages, just about anything can be purchased here. We go crazy on the white linen and lots of fresh fruit. We also adore the fresh farm flower stalls.

We manage to waste time fluffing around (how good is fluffing around by the way) while we wait for the ferry, Yay – it’s running today! Our plan is to get the ferry to Riomaggiore so we can view the villages by water and then get the train straight back for a beach day.

So glad we decided to set sail, the views are amazing. The villages are the definition of beauty and replicate the simple life.

The sun is super warm today so we dash back to Monterosso beach and take advantage of it. There are a few oriental women that walk the beach offering a massage for 10 euro, similar to what you would see in Thailand. It’s a complete afternoon of sun baking bliss on the black rock sand.

After the sun went down we took off to ensure we didn’t make the same mistake as last night with a crap meal. It was back to our hotel to freshen up before heading out to dinner. Thank god Ciak is open, these guys are our food family.

We get friendly with a couple of good value and solid drinking Poms, Colin and Alison. Ciak takes good care of us with home made crema di Limoncello, we feel really spoilt with our Monterosso family, the Ciaks.

We knocked about until the restaurant closes and then head home to hang out in our petite marble palace.. very cool that luck brought us here!!

Our sunburn has given us the shivers; you know when you bake yourself all day, then that night you are freezing even though it’s still 30 degrees? Hope tomorrow isn’t a sun burnt recipe for disaster. Night X
